Coffee growing solutions for specific needs
Coffee is a perennial crop that needs specific temperatures, soil types, and altitudes for best results. The trees can produce fruit for five years or more. But to achieve maximum yields, renovation is performed every five years and 10% of the plantation is renewed every year.
Plastic waste and soil depletion
During the renewal process, nursery plants are usually placed in polyethylene bags filled with soil. These are then planted into the ground. This can cause problems like soil-borne diseases which could affect the plant in future. Meanwhile, the plastic waste and depletion of native soils are important issues on the international market.
A better alternative
Using Jiffy Peat mix instead of sand during germination starts off a more sustainable process. The young plants can then be transplanted to our Jiffy Pellets. These are a good alternative to poly bags. The homogeneous pellets guarantee strong root growth, reduce the cycle, and cut the use of plastics. They protect the soil and improve working conditions.
