At Jiffy Group, certification is more than a mere badge; it is the foundation of our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and quality. We regard ISO certifications, such as the hygiene code certificate, as a dynamic framework for continuous improvement and trust-building with growers around the world.
An integrated approach to quality and safety
Jiffy operates under a unified quality, environmental, and food safety management system at all global production sites. This guarantees that every Jiffy product, from growing media to propagation systems, meets consistently high standards.
- ISO 9001 Certification: Our adherence to ISO 9001 reflects our commitment to quality management, focusing on customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.
- ISO 14001 Certification: As an environmentally conscious company, ISO 14001 guides our practices to reduce ecological impact, emphasizing sustainability.
- ISO 22000 Certification: We're pioneers in securing food safety with ISO 22000, ensuring the highest safety standards for our products.
Annual independent assessments for quality assurance
Each certification undergoes annual independent assessments to help identify areas for growth, ensuring we meet stakeholder expectations. “They help us monitor our progress, identify areas for improvement, and ensure that we continue meeting the expectations of our customers and stakeholders,” says Bart Kraan, Jiffy’s QHES Director.
In addition to the ISO certifications, we also maintain specific product certificates, which are tied not to locations but to individual products. The audit intervals for these certificates vary, ranging from quarterly to annually.
Jiffy displays several certification logos on its website, each accompanied by detailed explanations. These certifications can be independently verified with the respective certification bodies. This transparent approach builds trust with our customers and stakeholders.
An industry leader in food safety
In 2023, Jiffy set a precedent by being the first company in the global substrate industry to achieve ISO 22000 food safety certification across all sites. For customers growing crops which are often eaten raw, such as berries, nuts, and leafy greens, this certification provides crucial assurance. It helps minimize risks related to human pathogens and microbial hazards at the very start of the food chain.
“Growing media is the primary production stage for produce,” explains Kraan. “That’s why we take our role in the chain of custody very seriously, even though we don’t produce food ourselves.”

The role of QHES and global food safety teams
At the heart of Jiffy’s certification process lies its Quality, Health, Environment, and Safety (QHES) department, supported by dedicated Food Safety Teams at each site. These multidisciplinary teams are responsible for:
- Implementing end-to-end traceability systems
- Conducting internal and external audits
- Ensuring clean and controlled production environments
- Performing ongoing risk assessments for chemical, physical, and biological hazards
- Providing regular training to raise food safety awareness
As Janaka Weersuriya, Global Food Safety Team Leader, puts it:
“ISO 22000 certification confirms that we manage food safety risks in a structured and preventive way. It’s not a one-time effort but a continuous process that involves every part of our organization.”
Committed to environmental responsibility
Jiffy’s environmental responsibility is embedded in our operations. Guided by ISO 14001, we strive to reduce our footprint and protect ecosystems through:
- Investment in energy-efficient technology
- Use of recycled materials in products
- Waste management enhancements
