- Place the trays on greenhouse benches. Each 50-cavity tray is set inside a carrier tray before preparation.
- Expand the Jiffy Pellets. Employees water the trays using the greenhouse’s existing overhead boom system.
- Stick the cuttings by hand. One unrooted poinsettia cutting is placed in each expanded Jiffy Pellet.
- Transplant after rooting. Once established, the young plants move into larger pots for finishing.
Because Jiffy Pellets arrive compressed, employees do not need to fill individual cells with loose media. Preparation takes place on the same benches where the cuttings will begin rooting, which allows the setup to fit into the greenhouse’s existing workflow.

Crops propagated in Jiffy Preforma include coleus, succulents, calibrachoa, lysimachia, SunPatiens, and lantana.
The operation uses three tray sizes based on cutting size. Jiffy Preforma trays move directly from the pallet to greenhouse benches, where employees manually place cuttings into the pre-punched holes. Once rooted, the plants are transferred into larger containers.
Moving directly from pallet to bench limits the preparation required before sticking can begin. The holes in the media help protect delicate stems from bending or damage and remove the need for employees to create each planting hole.
Jiffy Preforma also allows more plants to fit on each propagation bench. Crops can move through that stage faster, creating room for incoming production without requiring additional greenhouse space.
