Free global virtual event on December 2, 2026 will connect growers, researchers and industry experts for a day of practical knowledge sharing
The microgreens market continues to grow, bringing new opportunities for growers alongside new questions around production, technology, food safety, research, efficiency and market development.
On December 2, 2026, Jiffy will host the first Microgreens Grower Day – Microgreens, Macro Impact, a free global virtual event created to bring together growers, researchers and industry professionals working across the microgreens sector.
The idea grew from something Jiffy CEA Segment Manager Kyle Freedman has increasingly observed while working within controlled environment agriculture: microgreens are closely connected to the broader CEA industry, but they also represent a distinct and often fragmented growing community.
There are growers of all sizes operating across the market, while valuable expertise also sits within universities, technology companies, suppliers and other parts of the industry. Those groups do not always have an easy opportunity to connect and exchange knowledge.
“There is a lot of knowledge, technology and experience across the microgreens industry, but it can be very fragmented. We saw an opportunity to bring growers, researchers and industry partners together in an accessible way, share practical knowledge and help bridge some of those gaps.”
— Kyle Freedman, CEA Segment Manager, Jiffy
A more accessible way to share knowledge
Industry conferences remain valuable meeting points, but attending them can also require significant travel, time and budget. By hosting Microgreens Grower Day completely online, Jiffy hopes to make the conversation accessible to growers and industry professionals regardless of location.
The event is being designed as a global, one-day program of short presentations and discussions, allowing attendees to join from North America, Europe and beyond.
Rather than focusing on a single production method or solution, the program will bring together perspectives from across the industry.
Topics will include areas such as:
- Commercial microgreens production and grower experiences
- Research and extension
- Automation and new technology
- Seeds, substrates and other production inputs
- Food safety and nutrition
- Tools and best practices for growers
- Business and industry trends
Several speakers from across the microgreens, research and CEA communities have already confirmed their participation, including Kaylee South of Virginia Tech, Dr. Francesco Di Gioia of Penn State University, Max Knight of Rooted Robotics, Brenna Chase of Johnny’s Selected Seeds, Sergey Dunayev of Eastside Microfarms, and representatives from Koppert Cress. Additional speakers and individual session topics will be announced as the event approaches.
Bringing different perspectives to the same conversation
Jiffy’s role in Microgreens Grower Day is first and foremost to create the platform for that exchange.
As a growing media supplier working across crops and cultivation systems, Jiffy interacts with many parts of the CEA industry. The event provides an opportunity to bring those different areas of expertise together while giving growers access to practical information that might otherwise be spread across separate organizations, conferences and resources.
The emphasis will be on knowledge and experience rather than sales presentations. Speakers will be encouraged to share research, tools, technologies, products, best practices and firsthand growing experiences in a way that provides practical value to attendees.
“Many of us in industry and research have knowledge that can be useful to growers,” Freedman explains. “The opportunity is to make that knowledge easier to access and bring those different parts of the industry together.”
Why now?
Microgreens continue to attract interest from growers, researchers, technology providers and consumers, while production methods and technologies continue to develop.
For Jiffy, that makes now an ideal time to create a dedicated space for the industry to exchange ideas.
Microgreens Grower Day is intended not only for established commercial growers, but also for those exploring the market, researchers studying the crop, and businesses developing solutions for microgreens production.
The goal is simple: make useful knowledge more accessible and create stronger connections across the microgreens community.
