Jiffy Achieves Responsibly Produced Peat Certification for Its Peat Products

Jiffy Group has announced that it has successfully completed the ‘chain of custody’ process to certify its peat products under the Responsibly Produced Peat (RPP) certification scheme. This certification ensures that Jiffy’s European peat fields are managed and restored in a responsible way, with an environmental assessment of all potential impacts.

The RPP certification process applies to the bogs but not the products made with peat from those bogs. Products can only be certified after an additional ‘chain of custody’ assessment, which assesses Jiffy’s use of RPP peat from its own peat bogs and third party suppliers.

We have successfully completed this important additional step to approve products made at four of our European production locations, including Jiffy Pots made in Denmark, Jiffy-7 pellets made in Norway, and substrates made in the Netherlands and Estonia.

While the RPP is a European certification scheme, we have also started work towards the Veriflora Certification for Responsibly Managed Peatlands in 2021 for our Canadian peat fields. This certification guarantees the application of good management practices in all aspects of sustainable development and after-use restoration, and is administered by the independent certification agency Scientific Certification Systems (SCS).

Applications for all locations were submitted in 2022 and we expect to achieve full certification very shortly.

Jiffy’s commitment to sustainable harvesting practices is a testament to its dedication to environmentally responsible practices. With its products now certified under the RPP Approved Label and soon the Canadian peat bogs under Veriflora Certification, customers can be confident that they are supporting a company that values sustainability and cares for the environment.
