It features a university-standard laboratory and a custom-built climate chamber. Essentially a space that recreates the highly controlled environment of vertical farming, the climate chamber includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Priva software to monitor the growing environment, collect data, and store and execute growing recipes<\/li>\n<li>Multiple sections to test different products for the cultivation of leafy greens, herbs, ornamentals, and more<\/li>\n<li>Philips GreenPower LED production modules with a GrowWise control system that is adjustable per section<\/li>\n<li>Dripper, ebb &amp; flow, gutter, and pond fertigation systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jiffy\u2019s Innovation Center is located at 1Plant, its flagship production facility in Zwijndrecht, Netherlands. The center enables the growing media specialist to carry out university-standard materials and plant growth research inhouse.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image strchf-type-image regular strchf-size-regular strchf-align-center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.storychief.com\/account_33219\/jiffy-innovation-centerimage2_5cd86169d508072acede45b907203b7f_800.JPG\" \/><figcaption>The Jiffy Innovation Center\u2019s climate chamber was custom-built by Light4Food<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2 id=\"9g52o\">Climate chamber by Light4Food<\/h2>\n<p>Light4Food designed and built the climate chamber for Jiffy. Thanks to Light4Food\u2019s extensive experience, it could advise on everything from the ideal location, to the software controlling the processes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs well as building climate chambers and hydroponic systems for customers worldwide,\u201d says Ren\u00e9 van Haeff, Light4Food Managing Director, \u201cwe have several climate chambers of our own for R&amp;D purposes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe relationship with Light4Food grew out of their using Jiffy products in their systems,\u201d adds Jiffy Innovation Director Henri Beekers. \u201cWe\u2019ll continue working with Light4Food to find new applications and improvements to our product range.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"35rtb\">Anticipating growers\u2019 needs<\/h2>\n<p>The climate chamber and the Innovation Center are key resources in Jiffy\u2019s aim to be a global leader when it comes to growing media innovation. They will help Jiffy focus on anticipating growers\u2019 future needs as policies develop around the use of water, peat, and plastics.<\/p>\n<p>These are complex issues, especially as Jiffy is committed to offering solutions to all propagators and growers, from <a href=\"https:\/\/jiffygroup.com\/crops\/vegetables\/\">produce<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/jiffygroup.com\/crops\/forestry\/\">forestry<\/a>, and from <a href=\"https:\/\/jiffygroup.com\/crops\/house-plants-growing-media\/\">potted plants<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/jiffygroup.com\/crops\/nursery-stock\/\">nursery stock<\/a>. That\u2019s why it participates in multiple cross-border pre-competitive projects, and is building relationships with university spinoffs, startups, and other parties in the horticulture industry and beyond it.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"3jmoa\">The importance of open innovation and partnerships<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cOpen innovation can help us achieve faster turnarounds on these challenges,\u201d says Henri Beekers.<\/p>\n<p>As well as the new climate chamber, the Innovation Center includes a large prototyping lab. There\u2019s enough space and equipment to pilot new fibers across different product ranges, including <a href=\"https:\/\/jiffygroup.com\/solutions\/jiffy-preforma\/\">Preforma Plugs<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/jiffygroup.com\/solutions\/jiffy-pellets\/\">Jiffy-7 Pellets<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/jiffygroup.com\/solutions\/jiffy-pots\/\">Jiffy Pots<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/jiffygroup.com\/solutions\/jiffy-substrates\/\">Substrates<\/a>.
