A variety of needs
There are literally thousands of varieties of flowering perennials. Each plant has its own characteristics in terms of root development, growth, and flowering. A range of substrates is needed to meet their differing irrigation and fertilizer needs. Other growing media for flowering perennials can be pellets or Preforma plugs.
Choosing the right substrate
Smaller perennials are usually grown in pots from P9 to three litres. These are placed on well-watered container fields or ebb and flow tables. Jiffy recommends a medium coarse substrate here. The exact substrate to choose depends on the container size, in what season the seedlings are transplanted and cultivation period.
Compact growth and rich coloring
Most flowering perennials prefer a light acidic growth medium and need relatively little fertilizer. If you are using a coated fertilizer, ensure it has a high potassium content for compact growth and rich coloring.
Propagation solutions
Flowering perennials are easy to propagate -in the right growing media- through tissue culture, cuttings, or seed. Jiffy offers a range of propagation solutions, including Jiffy-7 Pellets, Preforma Plugs, and Substrate for trays.
